The Fui Toong On Society is pleased to announce our line up of social and cultural activities and events planned for 2018 – the year of the Dog.

Canada Day – Sunday, July 1st:  The  Fui Toong On Society will once again join with the other local Chinese Societies and Associations in commemorating the Chinese Railway Workers in Canada.

Annual Picnic – Sunday, July 29th:  The picnic will be held at Milliken Park (McCowan & Steeles, Scarborough). Free admission and lunch will be served to members between 12 – 1pm. Activities including games with prizes will be held for the youth and children. There are also many wonderful prizes to be won in our raffles.

Mid Autumn Festival – Sunday September 23rd, 2018:  Everyone is invited to celebrate Autumn at the Association’s centre located downtown. Please feel free to come by and reconnect with the other members and friends while enjoying a free lunch and mooncakes.

Annual Christmas and New Years Banquet: Saturday, December 15th: Our annual celebration will be held at Casa Deluz Banquet Hall in Scarborough.

Bus Tours: There will be various bus tours and casino trips planned throughout the year. Please check back with the website for updates.

The Fui Toong On Executives team would like to extend an open invitation to all members and their families to join us throughout 2018, and we look forward to your participation in our planned events.

Our Centre is generally open on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays of every week. Members and their families are always welcome to stop by. To check if the centre is open, our telephone number is 416-340-7007.

The Fui Toong On Society of Canada is celebrating its 39th Anniversary on Saturday, December 16th at the Casa Deluz Banquet Hall located at 1571 Sandhurst Circle, Unit 107 (at Woodside Square), Scarborough, Ontario.

The reception will start at 5:00 pm, dinner will be served at 7:00 pm sharp, followed by homemade desserts and dancing.

As usual, there will be activities for the kids, live entertainment and many raffle prizes to be won. This year prizes will include Nintendo Switch and much more.

The ticket prices are $50 for adults and $25 for children under 12.

The Menu includes:

1 .   Mixed barbecue platter

2.   Fried blossom shrimp balls platter

3.   Stir fried prawns with mixed vegetables

4.  Shark fin with crab meat soup

5.   Sliced abalone with mushroom sauce

6.   Hong Kong style crispy fried chicken

8.   Fried lobster with green onion and ginger sauce

9.   Seafood fried rice

10. Hong style fried noodles.

Hello Members!

Our annual Summer Picnic is just around the corner and will be held on Sunday, July 23rd at Milliken Park (McCowan & Steeles, Scarborough). Admission is free to all Fui Toong on members and lunch will be served between 12:00–1:00pm. As usual, there will be many activities for kids of all ages and many raffle prizes to be won!

We are also currently looking for volunteers to help us organize games for the children and to serve lunch to the senior members. If any high school students are interested in fulfilling their mandatory volunteer hours, please email us at fuitoongon@gmail.com. We will need you to arrive at 10:30am to get the festivities started!

This is a reminder to all of the Toronto Hakka Festival organized by the Toronto Hakka Heritage Alliance on Saturday, July 8. It will be held at the Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Toronto located at 5183 Sheppard Avenue East, Scarborough.

Doors open at 10:00am and there will be children activities, booths, exhibits, a play and a Hakka Entertainment Showcase throughout the day. These activities are all free!

At 3:30pm there will be a documentary screenings for The Legend of Fat Mama, Beyond Barbed Wires: A Distant Dawn and The Way to my Father’s Village. Tickets for the screening are $10 for adults and $5 for children. If you purchase screening tickets before June 30, you will be eligible for a raffle draw and have reserved seating. Just a reminder that the Mid Autumn Festival will be celebrated at the Association on Sunday, September 11th. All active Fui Toong On members are invited to renew friendships with our members while enjoying a free lunch, served at 12:00 noon, along with moon cake.

A new Scholarship program will be started at the THC2016 (Toronto Hakka  Conferance 2016 )and I need to inform all my  members about it.In fact,only children of sponsoring and partner  organizations of the THC 2016 are eligible to apply.Financial aid of $1,500  is offered for one year to selected students who are graduating high school and have been  accepted at college or university.So far, three scholarships have been pledged and named for Chai, Lee and Lowe.Application forms can be found  on the website www.torontohakkaconferance.com and must be filled out and returned with supporting documents by May 31.Winners will be announced by June15th.

The Primary purpose is not only to reward academic excellence,but to encourage youth involvement in the Fui Toong on Society.This is a prize not a scholarship,to be awarded once and not ongoing through years of study for each recipient

Who is Eligible:

This  excellence award is only open to legal residents of Canada in their province of residence and who have graduated in a publicly or privately funded Canadian High School,community College or university within the award period of time

Applicants must be an active member of Fui toong On Society,either

A) As part of a family membership if under 18 years

or

B) As an independent membership  if 18 years or older.

Award Categories and Prizing:

One Cash prize will be awarded n each of the following categories :

(1) High School Graduate:$500.00CDN (Five Hundred Canadian Dollars)

(2) Community College Graduate:$750.00 (Seven Hundred and fifty Dollars)

(3) University graduate:$1000.00CdN( (One Thousand Canadian Dollars )

This award is Non-transferable and must be accepted as is.

Awards will be paid by cheque to each of the recipients.

Requirements;

(1) 90% average grade for High school

(2)85% Average  grade for community college

(3)85% average grade for university.

(4)20 hours or more volunteer community service at the Fui Toong ON Society

(5)Be an active participant in the society activities

In The Event That there is more than one qualified recipient,extracurricular activities(e.g Sports,Team Activities and volunteer hours will be considered)

4.Each award recipient will be contacted of their award before the society Annual Christmas Dinner held in December  each year and will be presented with a plaque and cheque at that time.
