Our 31st Anniversary Christmas Dinner, will be held on Saturday December 19th at the Very Fair Seafood Cuisine Restaurant @ 17 Milliken Blvd in Scarborough.

Reception will be at 6:00pm, Dinner at 7:00pm and Dancing from 10:30pm-1:00am.

Tickets are $43.00 per adult and $25.00 for Children Under 10 years of age. This includes a 10 course dinner, DJ, Live Entertainment, dancing, and LOTS of raffle and special door prizes.

Paul O’Dowd’s, the grandson of Late George Chang (Chang Hock-Shu) and Monica Chang, and nephew of Karen Change is 23 years old and is battling a very rare form of cancer.

1. On Canada Day, July 1, 2008 our society once again will join with the other Chinese Associations/Societies to commemorate the Chinese Railroad workers in Canada. The Wreath Laying Ceremony takes place at 10.a.m. at the Chinese Railroad Workers Monument on Braemar Street, Toronto (near the Rogers Centre) followed by The Parade north on Spadina Avenue, West along Dundas Street to Dundas Square. This year we are hoping many more members will come out and represent our Society. Volunteers will be provided lunch. To participate meet at our Centre at D’Arcy Street.

2. Our Annual Picnic will be held on Sunday, July 20, 2008 at Milliken Park (McCowan & Steeles), Scarborough. Free admission and lunch will be served between 12-1 p.m. Activities include games and prizes for the Children, and wonderful prizes to be won in during a lucky draws.

3. There will be a Bus Trip open to seniors and all members to the Thousand Islands (date to be announced later for late July or August). If interested please contact Austin (al.chang@rogers.com) @ 905-828-4338 or Cindy @ 416-497-7029.

4. The Mid Autumn Festival will be held on Sunday, September 7th at the Fui Toong On association building.

5. The Annual Celebration of Christmas, and the 30TH ANNIVERSARY of our society will be held at Ruby’s Restaurant (McCowan & Finch), Scarborough on Saturday December 20th, 2008. Ticket prices to be announced.

6. Cooking Classes will be continue once again due to popular demand, dates to be announce shortly.

7. The White Lotus Ball will be held on Friday, March 28th, 2008 at the Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Toronto-Scarborough. It will be conducted under the distinguished patronage of Dr. G. Raymond Chang, Chancellor of Ryerson University to launch The Toronto Hakka Conference 2008. More information provided in the flyer below.

8. HakkaWave is ready to form our 2008 roster this year and they’re looking for 26 dedicated paddlers to paddle with them and represent the Hakka Youth at this season’s Dragon Boat Races.

They will be holding 8 practices beginning in May and you MUST be available to race at the Toronto Islands on June 21st and 22nd.

The cost of 8 practices, team shirts and other misc costs for the team is approximately $125/person.

They do fund raise as a team throughout the season to try and reimburse at least a portion of this cost back to you.

9. The Toronto Hakka Conference 2008 – Roundhouse Reunion will be held on June 28-29 2008 at The Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Toronto-Scarborough – (5183 Sheppard Avenue east-one block east of Markham Road).

Our Centre is generally open on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday. All members, their families and friends are welcome.

Your Executives would like to extend an open invitation to all our members, their families and friends to join us and we look forward to your active participation in our planned events.
